Grand Rapids, MI — March 4, 2026, one person was injured in a truck accident at about 11:30 a.m. on U.S. Route 131.

Authorities said a semi-truck collided with a flatbed truck transporting scaffolding that had stopped in traffic from an earlier crash. The collision near West River Drive forced it to overturn onto another vehicle.

The semi-truck driver, a 60-year-old Oscoda man, was hospitalized with critical injuries after he was extricated from the wreckage, according to authorities. His name has not been made public yet.

No other injuries were reported.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Kent County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I’ve seen crashes like this many times, but determining which driver was at fault will require a full investigation of the crash.

Was the semi driver distracted? Were the truck’s brakes in good condition? Did the flatbed have working brake lights to alert drives behind it that it was stopping?

Authorities should be able to answer these questions once their investigation is complete. If they can’t, the injured driver and his family may need to find an independent expert to look into the crash.
