How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear at this point what caused this crash. Did one vehicle rear-end the other, or did they collide while changing lanes? Was one of these drivers fatigued or distracted, or fighting a vehicle malfunction like a faulty steering mechanism? These are the kind of questions that authorities must answer as they work to reconstruct this accident.

Physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage should help piece together what happened on I-95, while cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time.

If authorities suspect that a mechanical issue contributed to the crash, an outside expert likely will be needed to complete a forensic examination of the vehicles. Most law enforcement agencies do not have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience.

A thorough investigation should provide the injured driver’s family with a clear picture of how this accident unfolded.
