How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people who read about a crash like this probably would assume driver error caused this crash. That is always a possibility in every crash, but what if another vehicle forced the van off the road? Or the driver had a medical emergency? Or the van had a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? These possibilities should be considered by authorities investigating this accident.
Physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage should help investigators piece together what led to this crash, while cell phone records could show if the van driver was texting or interacting with an app at the time.
If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, a qualified expert should examine the van in a laboratory setting. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for that kind of inspection, in my experience, but the injured driver deserves to know as much as possible about what caused this accident.
