Accident Report

Amarillo, TX — July 18, 2026, one person was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 2 a.m. near U.S. Route 66/Amarillo Boulevard and North Grant Street.

Authorities said a car hit a teen at a house party near the intersection, pinning the girl under the car for about 20 minutes.

The pedestrian suffered a broken leg and other injuries in the crash, according to authorities.

The driver, 18, was arrested for intoxication assault with a vehicle involving serious bodily injuries, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Potter County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Investigators will scrutinize physical evidence, vehicle data and witness statements to determine if this crash as an accident, or the result of some sourt of mechanical issue. But they should also look into where the driver got his alcohol, if blood tests prove he was intoxicated at the time.

Alcohol providers are not supposed to serve minors, but Texas law also says they are not supposed to serve anyone who is obviously intoxicated. If they do, they can share responsibility for injuries caused by those patrons who decide to get behind the wheel.

I don’t know if that applies in this instance, but the injured pedestrian and her family deserve to know everyone who may have played a role in this crash.
