Accident Report

Bellmead, TX — March 24, 2026, one person was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 4:15 p.m. on State Highway Loop 340.

Authorities said a pickup collided with a man on an electric scooter as it was turning onto Research Avenue. The pickup kept driving until it was stopped by police a short time later.

The man on the scooter was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities. His name has not been made public yet.

The pickup driver, a 64-year-old man, was arrested after police determined he was intoxicated at the time of the crash, authorities said. He was jailed on charges of intoxication assault, collision involving serious bodily injury and a subsequent offense of driving while intoxicated.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Williamson County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities have arrested the pickup driver for driving while intoxication, but it’s not clear at this point if alcohol use is proven or just suspected.

If it turns out the driver was not intoxicated, this crash should be investigated like any other accident, using evidence at the scene, data from the pickup’s engine control module and any available video footage to reconstruct the crash. If he was intoxicated, a deeper investigation is warranted to look into where he had been drinking before the crash.

It’s one thing if he had been drinking at home, but if an alcohol provider served him while he was obviously intoxicated, that provider could be held accountable for any injuries the driver caused under Texas law. An independent investigation may be needed to track the driver’s activities before the crash, because most law enforcement agencies don’t look into such violations of the law, in my experience.
