How Did This Accident Occur?

Police seem to have concluded that the Toyota driver caused this accident, based on the traffic ticket issued to her, but what if they got it wrong? That doesn’t happen often, but citations usually are based on one officer’s first impressions of an accident. This one deserves a full investigation, like any other injury accident.

Authorities should check the timing at the intersection’s traffic lights to determine if the Toyota actually ran a red light. Evidence from the scene, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage should help reconstruct the accident, while cell phone records could show if the Toyota driver was distracted at the time of the crash. If investigators suspect a mechanical defect contributed to the crash, an outside expert may be required to conduct a forensic examination on the vehicle. That is something most law enforcement agencies aren’t equipped to handle, in my experience.

The investigation should yield the information necessary to answer any lingering questions plaguing the injured woman and her family after this crash.
