How Did This Accident Occur?
I haven’t seen enough information about what happened here to even begin making an educated guess at what happened here. I’ve seen a lot of folks on social media, however, who feel differently. There’s plenty of speculation being thrown around, and frankly I don’t understand that way of thinking. Let me explain what I mean.
I’ve been a part of hundreds of commercial vehicle accident investigations across a more than 30 year career. I’ve seen reports like this where it turned out someone was driving while looking at their phone. I’ve seen drivers who were going too fast and failed to slow down for traffic. In other situations, though, drivers experienced a medical emergency. Some had bad brakes because their employers weren’t maintaining the truck properly. Others were pressured to carry overweight cargo because their employers expected them to cut corners. There were even times some other reckless individual cut off an unsuspecting driver, caused a crash, then left the scene.
In the few news reports I’ve seen about this accident, not one has included enough information to either confirm or rule out any of these possibilities. So to see people throwing around accusations without any clear evidence just boggles my mind. It’s a disservice to victims, and it’s a disservice to victims’ loved ones. It’s best to just focus on getting the facts and letting the evidence tell the story. Hopefully authorities have been able to tune out the noise and focus on that.
If someone knows something about this crash I’m missing, feel free to let me know in the comments.
