Texarkana, TX — November 14, 2024, Officer Kevin Buck was injured as the result of an alleged drunk driver accident early Thursday on I-30.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened along westbound lanes of the interstate.
It appears that Officer Kevin Buck was in a patrol vehicle and parked along the highway for traffic control at a previous crash scene. While there, details say another driver crashed into the officer’s vehicle. Due to this, Officer Buck was sent to the hospital with reportedly minor injuries.
The driver who crashed into Officer Buck was allegedly intoxicated at the time, and it appears the driver was arrested. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

With the alleged intoxicated driver being arrested here, folks may think this all is open-and-shut. However, investigations may be progressing beyond the accident scene if it turns out the driver was coming from a local bar. A lot of crashes involving alcohol involve drivers who were unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider. That could mean that provider is exposed to potential criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, or liability for the injuries resulting from the intoxication. At the very least, I’d hope to see authorities were being thorough to help ensure no wrongdoers involved here slip under the radar. Officers are out on the roads every night at risk of being hurt by drunk drivers, so any potential measure to help reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roads should be a goal worth pursuing.
