Pedestrian accidents can sometimes present unique challenges in that people tend to be quick to jump to conclusions. Despite what some might assume, these accidents aren’t all about who had the right-of-way or if there was a crosswalk where the collision happened. Those are important factors, but they’re just a couple of many that deserve attention.
What was visibility like? Is the area well-lit? Was the victim experiencing some kind of emergency? Was the driver distracted? Was alcohol involved in the accident? Is this an area where poor signage or road design issues put pedestrians at an unnecessary risk? If nothing else, these are potential factors that should be ruled out. A victim’s loved ones at least deserve to know important details aren’t being overlooked. Have authorities been able to give this sort of reassurance?
