How Did This Accident Occur?
It is not clear at this point why this Kia went off the road. Was the driver fatigued or distracted? Did another vehicle force it off the road? Did the Kia have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? The facts unearthed during the investigation into this accident should provide answers to these questions.
Cell phone records could show what the driver was doing at the time of the crash. Witness statements, data from the car’s engine control module and any available video footage should help investigators piece together what happened, but an outside expert likely will be needed if they suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash.
The Kia should be examined in a laboratory setting to determine if it had any mechanical problems, but most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such exams, in my experience.
A thorough investigation is necessary to provide answers to any lingering questions plaguing the injured driver and her family after this crash.
