How Did This Accident Occur?
When two vehicles come together on a rural road, it’s up to authorities to figure out why it happened. Was one driver distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Was one driver’s view at the intersection obstructed? Did either vehicle have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? These are the kinds of questions that investigators must consider as they gather evidence about this crash.
Physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video of footage should help reconstruct the crash, while cell phone records could provide clues about what each driver was doing just before the accident. An independent expert likely will be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical defect contributed to the crash, because in my experience most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training to conduct the kind of forensic examination needed to diagnose that kind of issue.
A thorough investigation like I’ve described is needed to provide answers for the family of the woman who died in this crash.
