There’s no telling right now what caused this unusual accident, but there are two key pieces of evidence that likely need to be secured ASAP before the evidence is lost.

One piece of evidence is any possible video footage. This includes any cameras on the bus, from passengers or witnesses, and from nearby businesses. The different angles could provide key insight on the driver’s actions and the vehicle’s behavior during the accident.

Second, it’s important the bus gets a thorough inspection from experienced engineers. They need to be able to rule out or otherwise bring to light any mechanical issues. If there were mechanical issues that led to this, crash, investigators then need to determine if they happened due to an unforeseeable defect or neglected maintenance from MTA or whoever maintains their buses.

The sooner these factors get attention, the more the evidence will be intact for analysis. This will no doubt be crucial for getting clear answers here.
