Accident Report

April 28, 2026, a motorcyclist was injured due to a car accident at approximately 11:30 p.m. along Dyer Street.

According to authorities, a 20-year-old man was traveling on a northbound Kawasaki motorcycle on Dyer Street just past the Sanders Avenue intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the motorcycle failed to appropriately control its speed. A rear-end collision consequently occurred between the motorcycle and the rear-end of a northbound Dodge Charger.

The motorcyclist reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When it comes to car accidents involving motorcycles—especially those that happen late at night—people tend to just point the finger at the motorcycle rider and move on. After over three decades in this career, I’m not about to jump to conclusions, though. Why? Because I’ve seen plenty of similar cases over the years in which the investigation ended up unearthing evidence of less likely causes. Honestly, I’ve come to believe that motorcyclists get a bad rap.

That’s not to imply that I know more about this particular case than anyone else outside of the investigation does. As far as I am aware, driver error remains on the table as a possible cause. However, I would like to point out that, hypothetically, the motorcycle’s failure to slow could have been a result of something wrong with the motorcycle itself. For example, what if it had been dealing with brake failure at that critical time? I understand that it isn’t extremely likely, but neither is it outside of the realm of possibilities. It’s certainly something that should at least be considered.

Hopefully the authorities are being as thorough and openminded as they should be as they investigate this case. If, for whatever reason, their work seems shortsighted, however, then a third party investigation can always be brought in to ensure that nothing important falls through the cracks. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding as to how any why it happened. Assumptions based on surface-level investigation won’t cut it.
