How Did This Accident Occur?
Any single-vehicle accident like this is going to bring up concerns for things like unsafe speeds or distracted driving. It’s obviously important those possibilities get attention here. However, some may be quick to judgment specifically because the vehicle involved here was a motorcycle.
That’s an all too common unfair bias which I have to deal with all the time. People are just generally less likely to give someone the benefit of the doubt when they’re on two wheels instead of four. Again, drivers make mistakes, so I’m not suggesting that didn’t happen here. But it’s just as important after a motorcycle accident to consider, for example, a mechanical defect as it is with a car or SUV crash.
If authorities are overlooking that here due to some preconceived image of how motorcyclists behave, they could be missing something important. Hopefully, though, this crash gets the thorough, unbiased accident reconstruction it deserves.
Are there any motorcyclists out there who have been unfairly blamed for something they couldn’t control? Let me know in the comments.
