People will look at the reported details of this accident, chalk it up to a stunt gone wrong with painful consequences, and move on. Maybe that’s really all that happened here, but I know from long experience that motorcyclists often get a bad rap no matter how well-behaved they are on their vehicles. Their portrayal in movies and pop culture as daredevils and speedsters sometimes influences public perception, and I’ve seen many riders unfairly blamed for crashes that were actually out of their control.
Obviously motorcyclists sometimes make mistakes, and pulling back too far during a wheelie would certainly be one. I’m only saying that preliminary reports don’t always contain every important detail, and it’s not fair to point fingers before other factors like road conditions, visibility, and vehicle malfunctions or defects are looked into as well. If either person who fell off that bike has anything to add to what police concluded about their accident, I hope they can find someone to listen.
