How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people, when faced with an accident where a motorcycle purportedly rear-ends another vehicle—are quick to point the finger at the motorcyclist. I’ve been in this line of business for over thirty years, though, and I’ve come to believe that motorcyclists get a bad rap. I’ve seen plenty of motorcycle-involved accident cases in which the investigation ended up unearthing evidence that went against the grain of the stereotype. Because of that, I’m slow to make assumptions.
That’s not to imply that I know more about this accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I simply want to point out that, hypothetically, something other than driver error could have been behind the collision. What if the motorcycle was experiencing brake failure for example. Or maybe the throttle somehow got stuck in the open position? An in-depth vehicle inspection would bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck.
Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities, or a third party—get one done. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of how it actually occurred. Surface-level investigation just won’t cut it.
