How Did This Accident Occur?

Like any single-vehicle crash, it’s possible something common like unsafe speeds, fatigue, or distracted driving led to the accident. With motorcyclists, people are more likely to jump to one of these conclusions simply because they think all motorcyclists are dangerous. I know from experience that most riders are actually safe drivers. Besides, it’s always important to consider possible factors drivers can’t always foresee or avoid.

For example, I can’t remember the last time I saw police investigate a motorcycle accident where they inspected the motorcycle for potential vehicle defects. When people consider defects—and they rarely do—they usually just think about cars and trucks. Motorcycles, however, can also have issues at the manufacturing or design level. If there isn’t at least an adequate inspection of the vehicle to rule out this possibility, something important might slip through the cracks.

Hopefully there will be proper investigations into this crash so people aren’t left jumping to conclusions about what happened. If anyone has thoughts about this story or just motorcycle accidents in general, speak up in the comments.
