Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Honda failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It was consequently involved in a single-vehicle collision.

The man reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people will look at this accident and, based solely on the fact that it was a motorcycle, assume that driver error was the cause. Honestly, though, I think motorcyclists get a bad rap. I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of motorcycle accidents over the last three decades. Sure, I’ve seen plenty of accidents where the riders were ultimately at fault. But, I’ve also seen cases that go against the grain of the stereotype. It’s not fair to jump to conclusions without the evidence necessary to back them up. This is especially true when doing so could place possibly unmerited blame on the shoulders of the victim.

The fact is, despite them being smaller than other vehicles, motorcycles are still complex machines. Any number of things could go wrong with the mechanics that might lead to an accident. Hopefully, the authorities who are in charge of investigating this accident are being thorough as well as open-minded. If, for some reason or another, they seem to be falling short, then a third party investigation can always step in and take up that slack.
