A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2001 GMC Yukon was heading southwest when it hit the back of a 2003 Peterbilt semi-truck that was stopped to turn into a private driveway. It then collided with a northbound 2018 GMC Sierra.
Yukon driver Monica Edwards, 54, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.
No one else was injured, the report states.

How Did This Accident Occur?
It’s not clear at this point why this SUV crashed into a semi-truck on S.H. 198. Was the driver distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Did the truck have working brake lights? Did the Yukon have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? These are the kind of questions that investigators must consider as they work to reconstruct this accident.
Physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage will help piece together how this crash unfolded. Cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time of the crash, but an outside expert likely will be needed to examine the vehicles if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this accident.
Most law enforcement agencies do not have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience, but the injured driver and her family deserve answers about what happened near Roddy.
