How Did This Accident Occur?
Any car accident is going to bring up questions about driver attention, vehicle speeds, tire and brake conditions, possible fatigue, etc. What’s important is to make sure investigators are just as thorough when considering uncommon possible factors. That’s especially true when someone isn’t around to give their side of the story.
For example, did authorities ever secure data from the vehicles involved in this crash? Most vehicles have an onboard computer that can record things like speed, braking, and steering inputs in the moments surrounding the crash. This, combined with physical evidence at the scene, can help reconstruct the events of the crash and provide a clearer picture of what happened. Too often, though, I see investigations where authorities just had cars towed from the scene ASAP without bothering to download any information from the vehicles. This can leave huge gaps in the story which might require further independent investigations to fill in.
Perhaps authorities here were thorough and turned over every stone getting answers for those affected by this crash. It’s just not the sort of thing I’d ever take for granted, and I certainly wouldn’t expect anyone else to, either.
