Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

If the images of the truck I’m seeing in the news show the actual truck involved in this crash, there are some immediate questions that come to mind. Was this vehicle well-lit? Is it in road-worthy condition? Does the driver have the proper licensing and experience to drive this truck?

Answering these questions is one thing. Doing so on top of handling an already challenging large truck wreck investigation is another. An investigation into a crash like this will no doubt take proper tools and an experienced eye. Hopefully authorities are making sure that happens. Frankly, though, I’d be surprised if a rural police or sheriff’s department had the right equipment and training for something this unusual. There may need to be multiple sets of eyes on this to ensure no important evidence slips through the cracks.
