How Did This Accident Occur?
It is not clear at this point how this crash happened. Was the area well lit? Was the pedestrian trying to cross the street or walking alongside it? Were any other vehicles able to avoid hitting the pedestrian? I don’t claim to know the answers, but these are the kind of questions that authorities should consider as they investigation this accident.
Investigators likely will start by gathering physical evidence, witness statements, data from the Toyota and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show if the driver was distracted at the time of the crash, but an outside expert probably will be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this accident.
Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such an inspection, but the pedestrian’s family deserves to know as much as possible about this crash.
