How Did This Accident Occur?

With so few details available in the public OSHA report, this incident could involve anything from misuse of machinery to a medical emergency to a falling light fixture to a mechanical defect. OSHA looks into all kinds of situations, and not all of them are avoidable or even the result of a mistake. This is one of the reasons I get so many calls about work accidents. Families find themselves weeks or months following an accident with the same unanswered questions as they had on day one.

Considering Texas has the most complex work fatality laws in the whole country, getting those answers ASAP is crucial. If authorities can provide those answers on their own in a timely manner, that’s good. It’s just not something I would ever take for granted if I lost a loved one to a work accident. Navigating a legal maze like Texas work fatality law requires having as much evidence telling the story as possible. That usually means having more than one pair of eyes looking things over and bringing as much information to light as possible—even if it might seem insignificant at first. Hopefully that happens here if it hasn’t already.
