Bridgewater, NY — January 28, 2024, Michelle Machnica was killed and James Cole was injured in a truck accident shortly before 3:30 p.m. along S.R. 8.
According to authorities, 32-year-old James Cole and 34-year-old Michelle Machnica were traveling in a northbound Honda Civic along State Route 8 when the accident occurred.
Officials indicate that the Honda may have been traveling at speeds considered unsafe. The Honda allegedly failed to safely maintain its lane of travel; it reportedly veered left of center and entered the southbound lane of the roadway. This resulted in a collision with an oncoming 18-wheeler.
Machnica reportedly incurred fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and was declared deceased at the scene of the accident. Cole sustained suspected severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services in order to receive immediate treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
