Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

My immediate concern with motorcycle wrecks is authorities sometimes rush or mishandle the investigations. To be rather blunt, a lot of people assume the worst of motorcyclists and look at crashes like this through a lens warped by serious negative bias. If officers aren’t particularly experienced and well-equipped to conduct a proper accident reconstruction, they might let this bias impact the investigation.

That’s why it’s important for families to trust their instincts if they feel details may not be adding up. Ultimately, if authorities can show they’re approaching the crash from all angles and investigating even unlikely possible factors, that likely means the crash is in good hands. That alone can be a world of weight off a family’s shoulders. But if following up with the authorities only raises further questions and doubts, that may be a sign that independent investigators need to step in and ensure the victim’s side of the story is being told fairly.
