Jasper County, TX — March 12, 2026, Michael Mitchel was killed in a hit-and-run accident at about 9 p.m. on State Highway 63 west of Jasper.

Authorities said a westbound 2004 Ford F-150 hit a man who was walking along the road near County Road 109 and continued driving.

The pedestrian, 56-year-old Jasper resident Michael Mitchel, died after being transported to a local hospital, according to authorities.

The Ford driver, who reportedly returned to the crash scene a short time later, has been charged with failure to stop and render aid causing death, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Jasper County crash at this time.
