How Did This Accident Occur?

When two vehicles going the same direction collide this early in the morning, it’s often due to things like distraction, unsafe speeds, or fatigue. That’s where I would expect investigations to start, but that’s far from where I’d expect them to end. After all, even uncommon possible factors deserve attention.

For example, have authorities inspected these vehicles for potential defects? A lot of things can go wrong these days with vehicles. Brake failure, steering issues, airbags not going off, electrical failures, and even issues with automatic driving or crash avoidance technology. It can take state-of-the-art tools and specialized training to rule out or confirm those things, which is not something I generally see authorities bring to the table.

Perhaps investigators have been or will be able to rule out something like a vehicle defect. It’s just important for victims and families to know that’s being taken care of. Otherwise, something important could slip through the cracks.
