How Did This Accident Occur?
Common factors for any accident where a vehicle leaves its lane will be things like distracted driving and fatigue. However, it’s important folks avoid jumping to conclusions. I’ve been a part of hundreds of commercial vehicle accident investigations, and there are all sorts of factors that can cause a crash like this. In fact, not all of them are foreseeable or avoidable.
For example, did any kind of vehicle defect lead to this crash? That could include things like brake failure, sticking accelerators, glitches with automatic driving or lane assistance features, steering defects, tire issues, etc. This all may require extensive analysis from well-equipped, experienced specialists to look into. That’s not often something authorities have access to, which is why it helps to know early on if it’s something authorities will need help looking into.
Likely or not, ruling out these possible factors can be crucial for getting families the full story. If nothing else, it’s important to cover all angles when a driver isn’t around to tell their side of the story. Making sure the evidence speaks for itself helps to ensure families can move forward without unanswered questions or doubts.
