Following the crash, Michael Brown reportedly had serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details about the crash remain unconfirmed.

How Did This Accident Occur?

A chain-reaction crash can involve all kinds of possible factors. Most common tend to be distracted driving and unsafe speeds. And in a vacation town like this, alcohol has to be considered, as well. But investigations should dig deeper than just finding out how the crash happened. Another key question comes to mind which authorities too often miss: How did the victim’s injuries occur?

Here’s why that matters. Four vehicles and numerous people were involved in this crash. Yet somehow, only one person was hurt—seriously, in fact. It’s possible that was just the result of the physical position of the vehicles and the points of impact. Sometimes, though, that can be a sign of a serious vehicle defect. Did the victim’s airbag not go off? Did their seatbelt break or come unlatched? Was their chair assembly secure? Did the integrity of the vehicle itself perform up to safety standards?

While relatively uncommon, vehicle safety defects can cause severe injuries that otherwise could have been prevented. Not only is that something victims and families need to know about, but catching those issues could help prevent others from being killed. If authorities aren’t using the right tools or taking the time to rule out possible defects here, they may only be getting half the story. That’s why there should be an investigation that covers both the facts surrounding the crash as well as what exactly led to the victim’s injuries.
