Harris County, TX — January 3, 2026, thirteen people reportedly had injuries due to a metro bus accident at around 2:30 p.m. along McGowen Street.
According to initial details about the accident, it took place along the McGowen Street overpass over Highway 288.
It appears that a Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority bus was going along the overpass at the time. Somehow, the bus ran off-road, and it overturned along the embankment. Authorities report another vehicle was involved in the crash, but it’s unclear how.
Reports say 13 people from the bus had reported non-serious injuries while the driver of the other vehicle was in critical condition. Additional details are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
There’s not a lot of information available here, and it can sometimes surprise folks when authorities don’t come up with clear answers right away. The reality is not all crash investigations are equal, and I’ve seen plenty which were either mishandled or brushed aside as a low priority before officers could really dig into the details. That’s why it’s important to know early on how much time and effort authorities are dedicating to a crash. If the crash isn’t getting enough attention, crucial evidence might slip through the cracks unless independent investigators are around to pick up the slack.
