Accident Report

March 28, 2026, Melinda Nichols and three others were injured due to a car accident at around 7:14 p.m. along FM 311.

Authorities say that the crash took place at the intersection of Farm-to-Market 311 and US Highway 281, north of Bulverde.

According to officials, 70-year-old Melina Nichols and a 78-year-old man were in a Toyota Prius traveling northbound along the highway. A Ford F-150 was going eastbound when it crashed with the Toyota and a Ford F-250, which was on westbound lanes.

Due to the collision, Melinda Nichols reportedly had serious injuries. Nichols’s passenger had moderate injuries, as did the 18-year-old driver of the F-150 and another 18-year-old passenger.

Additional details are unconfirmed at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

This intersection appears to be controlled by a traffic light, so the most likely explanation for this crash is that someone disregarded the light and failed to yield. As authorities look into that possibility, my hope is that they’re at least fair in their efforts. Let me explain what I mean.

I’ve seen authorities automatically blame teenage drivers for being young and inexperienced. I’ve also seen them assume elderly drivers cause accidents and shouldn’t be behind the wheel due to possible eyesight and reaction time issues. If an officer is inexperienced, rushed by supervisors, or perhaps just lazy, they might jump to conclusions rather than focusing on gathering evidence in a proper accident reconstruction.

The truth is drivers of all ages make mistakes, and it’s important to let the evidence speak for itself. If authorities show that they can put their bias aside and get the facts, that can be very reassuring. But if victims or families ever feel their side of the story isn’t being told fairly, it’s only reasonable they’ll look to independent professionals who can help keep the facts straight.
