Accident Report

Mount Pleasant, TX — August 16, 2026, Melina Garcia was killed and four other people were injured in a car accident at about 10:50 p.m. on U.S. Highway 271.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a southbound 2016 Nissan Versa collided with a northbound 2017 Ford Fusion.

Nissan driver Melina Garcia, 50, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the report.

The Ford driver, a 49-year-old man, and his three passengers suffered serious injuries in the crash, the report states. His passengers were a 15-year-old girl, a 40-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl. Their names have not been made public yet.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Titus County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear at this point why these vehicles collided. One probably left its lane, but we don’t know which one right now, or why. Was the driver distracted or fatigued? Was the driver trying to pass another vehicle? Did one vehicle have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism?
