Accident Report

Grant County, WA — June 8, 2026, McKay Hintze, Noah Young and Seth Freeman were injured in a dump truck accident at about 2:30 p.m. on State Route 28.

Authorities said a 1989 Peterbilt dump truck allegedly failed to yield at a stop sign while heading south on Road O Northwest, crashing into a 2026 Subaru Outback. The impact pushed the SUV into an irrigation ditch east of Quincy.

Subaru driver McKay S. Hintze and passengers Noah S. Young and Seth A. Freeman were hospitalized with unspecified injuries after the crash, according to authorities. A third passenger, Tanner B. White, and the dump truck driver were not injured.

The dump truck driver, a 62-year-old Quincy man, was charged with second-degree negligent driving after the crash, according to the report.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Grant County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people think a citation means the investigation is over, but that is not the case. The citation is typically just one officer’s view of what happened. What if the dump truck driver had a medical emergency? What if the truck had an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? A full investigation should provide us with a clearer picture of this accident.

Investigators likely will start by gathering physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time of the crash.

Outside experts likely will be needed if authorities suspect a medical or mechanical issue contributed to this crash. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training to sort that out on their own, in my experience, but the young people who were hurt in this crash deserve to know as much as possible about this accident.
