How Did This Accident Occur?
Vehicles crashing at an intersection like this is usually the result of someone trying to make a turn when they’re not supposed to. That could be simple impatience or inattention, or it could be due to distracted driving because of a cell phone. That said, I’ve seen unusual and unavoidable circumstances cause accidents before. It’s important for investigations to include those possibilities.
For example, is there something wrong with the light here? Perhaps the timing is off, the lights aren’t clearly visible, they’re too dim or broke, etc. That’s not usually something immediately on the authorities’ radar, which is why when I see investigators look into it, they’re independent investigators brought in to fill in gaps authorities left behind.
Likely or not, it’s important to consider all angles and not jump to blame someone just because a certain factor seems likely. The facts should speak for themselves, and it’s up to the victims and families to tell if those facts are really getting the attention they deserve.
