June 23, 2026, Matthew Ring lost his life due to a hit-and-run car accident sometime in the morning along Interstate Highway 35E.
According to authorities, one person was on foot walking in the vicinity of I-35E and Corinth Parkway when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle of unknown make or model. The vehicle allegedly fled the scene, the person(s) inside failing to stop and render aid of any sort to the victim.
The pedestrian—23-year-old Matthew Jacob Ring—was declared deceased at the scene. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
When it comes to hit-and-run accidents, most people are quick to assume that there is little-to-no hope that the unknown vehicle can and will be tracked down. Fortunately, that’s just not true. With modern investigation techniques, hit-and-run cases end up being solved more often than people might think.
As far as why the accident occurred in the first place, I’m not going to pretend to know more about that than I actually do. However, in my experience, when drivers leave the scene of accidents like this one, it tends to be because they believe they did something wrong and do not want to be held accountable. For example, what if they had been under the influence at the time? Or maybe they were distracted by something like cellphone use? If it happened in the early morning, then there is also a possibility that fatigue was a factor.
Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get to the bottom of it. Of course, it will likely be easier on them with any additional help that can be provided by the community.
