Accident Report

December 18, 2025, Matthew Richard lost his life due to a single-car accident at approximately 1:15 p.m. along Interstate Highway 10.

According to authorities, 40-year-old Matthew Richard was traveling in an eastbound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on I-10 in the vicinity west of County Road 210 between Borden and Weimar when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Tacoma was involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently overturned.

Richard reportedly fatal injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s tempting for some to preemptively attach the ubiquitous “driver error” cause to this accident; after all, human error plays a role in the majority of car accidents. However, I’ve been in this line of business to know that just because something happens a lot of the time does not mean it happens all of the time. We should wait until the authorities have completed their investigation and publicized their findings to come to any conclusions.

Besides, what if something was wrong with the pickup truck—like tire failure, brake issues, or steering or throttle malfunctions. Any one of those things could have been a factor in the wreck. On top of that, were the safety features of the pickup working properly? Did the seatbelt do it’s job? Did the airbags deploy properly? If this crash might have been survivable if the safety features of the vehicle had been functioning, then that’s an entirely other can of worms—one that desperately needs to be opened and fully addressed.

Let me know in a comment whether or not you agree, but I hope a thorough investigation into this accident takes place, either by the authorities or a third party investigator. In the end, what it comes down to is this: the loved ones left behind by Mr. Richard deserve to have the truth, not excuses and assumptions that place unmerited blame on the shoulders of the deceased.
