Kleberg County, TX — October 19, 2025, Matthew Encinia was killed due to a hit-and-run accident around 5:57 a.m. along US Highway 77.
Investigators said that the accident took place in the area of US 77 and Santa Gertrudis Street.
According to initial statements, 26-year-old Matthew Encinia was in a GMC Sierra going southbound on the highway. The reports say another vehicle collided with the GMC, then left the scene. Matthew Encinia was killed in the accident.
It’s unclear if authorities ever located the runaway driver. Investigations are ongoing.

If authorities have yet to locate the other driver involved in this, it might help if they put out more information to the public. A lot of time, someone is able to connect the dots and help authorities get a name. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to try everything possible to ensure there is accountability or at least some answers about what happened here. The victim’s loved ones deserve nothing less.
