How Did This Accident Occur?

You have to consider driver fatigue when a crash happens at about 4 in the morning, but what if another vehicle forced it off the road? Or the driver lost control because the pickup’s trailer wasn’t hooked up properly? Or the pickup had an issue with its steering mechanism? I don’t claim to know what happened on S.H. 164, but I know it’s going to take a full investigation to sort it out.

Investigators will pore over physical evidence, data from the pickup’s engine control module and any available witness statements or video footage of the crash to reconstruct this accident. An outside expert likely will be needed if investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash because, in my experience, most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for a forensic examination of the vehicle.

A thorough investigation should provide answers to any questions the injured driver and his family have about this accident.
