How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people would probably assume this crash was the result of a driver error, but I’ve been part of enough accident investigations over my career to know that assumptions usually don’t lead to accurate conclusions. The best way to know how a crash happened is to rely on facts, not assumptions or guesses.

What if the larger pickup stopped without warning, or did not have working brake lights? Or what if the 2014 pickup had a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? There is no way to know without a full investigation.

Investigators will pore over evidence from the scene, witness statements and data from the vehicles to determine what happened at this intersection. Cell phone records and available traffic or security camera footage could help as well, but an independent expert may be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical issue in one of the pickups contributed to the crash.
