How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear from early reports how these two vehicles came together. I hope that is because authorities are too busy to provide updates to the public, not because they don’t know. But regardless of whether the pickup rear-ended the truck or the truck collided with the pickup as it was entering the highway, or some other scenario, it is up to investigators to figure out why it happened.

Evidence from the crash site, data from the vehicles’ engine control modules and any available video footage of the crash will help reconstruct the crash, but investigators may need cell phone records to determine what each driver was doing before the crash. A forensic examination of the vehicles may be needed if there concerns that a mechanical issue contributed to the crash.
