Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The simple fact there were multiple vehicles involved here can create a lot more of a challenge for investigators than people may realize. Keeping that kind of scene contained and still being able to investigate complex possibilities often results in authorities filing hasty or incomplete reports. Were there mechanical defects? Are there issues with the roadway itself? Was someone unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider? Did a reckless driver cause the crash and flee the scene? Did a tire blowout?
Sometimes, authorities rise to the challenge and make sure a victim’s loved ones get all the facts. Other times, families find themselves with all kinds of unanswered questions looking for anyone who can help fill in the blanks. Right now, it’s unclear how these investigations have been handled. In my experience, though, I don’t see anything to suggest this incident would present any less of a challenge than any other chaotic fatal accident.
