Houston, TX — March 10, 2024, Maritza Itzep Morales was injured after an alleged hit-and-run accident at around 5:30 p.m. on W. Houston Center Boulevard.
Authorities stated that the crash took place in the area of West Houston Center Boulevard and Alief Clodeine Road.

According to officials, 51-year-old Maritza Itzep Morales was in a Toyota Camry traveling southbound along Houston Center. Morales was reportedly behind a Honda Accord at the left turn lane to go eastbound on Alief Clodeine. As the two vehicles waited, it appears a Dodge Ram failed to control speed and crashed into Morales, who then in turn hit the Accord.
Due to the crash, Morales had injuries which county officials called serious. Occupants of the Accord may have had minor injuries. The driver of the pickup allegedly fled the scene, but it appears authorities located the driver and charged them for failure to stop and render aid.

Hopefully authorities were more thorough and continued their investigations even after filing charges. Most of the time, someone who flees an accident scene had something specific to hide—usually things like warrants, drunk driving, or drugs. That could lead to more complex proceedings depending on what investigators find. Maybe evidence will show otherwise here, but it’s important the victims here know authorities are addressing all of the issues surrounding the crash rather than just the simplest one.
