How Did This Accident Occur?
At this point, we don’t know why this car went off the highway. Was the driver distracted or fatigued? Did she swerve to avoid another vehicle? Did the Ford have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? Investigators should address these questions during their probe, using vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and available video footage.
A qualified expert should examine the Ford to determine if it was designed properly to protect against a rollover accident. Many vehicles are not, because carmakers work to have their vehicles pass the government’s rollover test, which is not an accurate test of its ability to protect its occupants.
Such an investigation should provide the driver’s family with a clear picture of what happened on State Highway 20.
