Accident Report

Duncanville, TX — June 8, 2026, Maria Rodriguez, Teresa Rodriguez and a 12-year-old boy were killed and another boy was injured in an alleged street racing accident at about 8:45 p.m. on West Wheatland Road.

Authorities said a westbound Chrysler 300 thought to be involved in a street race crashed into a Toyota Corolla that was turning onto South Cedar Ridge Drive.

Three people in the Corolla — 50-year-old Maria Rodriguez, her 78-year-old mother Teresa Rodriguez and her 12-year-old son — died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities, while another boy was hospitalized with critical injuries.

The driver of the Chrysler, who was not injured, was arrested for street racing, along with another driver who had stopped at the scene of the crash, authorities said.

How Did This Accident Occur?

This crash allegedly happened when the Toyota was struck by a vehicle involved in a street race, but what if the Chrysler had some sort of mechanical issue? Was its throttle stuck? Did its brakes respond when the driver tried to stop? These are the kind of questions that authorities should address as they investigate this accident.

Data from the vehicles’ engine control modules should help investigators piece together that happened on Wheatland Road. The Dodge’s systems could show acceleration patterns consistent with racing. The Toyota’s telemetry could reveal signs of evasive action, if it took any.

A thorough investigation should provide answers for the families of those who died in this accident.
