Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

My hope is authorities did their due diligence and didn’t let anything important slip through the cracks. Unfortunately, certain details make me skeptical of that. Across 30 years in this career, I’ve found there are two types of accidents authorities often treat as a low priority: single-vehicle wrecks and accidents involving young drivers. The fact this crash involves both makes me wonder what steps are being taken to get the victim’s loved ones the answers they deserve.

Despite the fact there are all kinds of possible factors to consider, authorities sometimes assume the drivers in these accidents must have done something wrong. That’s obviously a possibility I wouldn’t suggest ignoring, but I’ve had plenty of people call me about an accident where it turned out authorities missed something crucial because they were too hasty in their investigations. Maybe this wouldn’t be one of those times, but it’s important the victim’s loved ones know they’re getting all the facts.
