El Paso County, TX — April 24, 2024, Ma Cercado and one other person were injured in a car accident shortly before 3:45 p.m. along Horizon Boulevard.
According to authorities, a Hyundai Sonata occupied by a 71-year-old woman was traveling eastbound on Horizon Boulevard attempting to make a left turn to head north on Ashford Street when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Sonata failed to yield the right of way to oncoming westbound traffic, entering the intersection at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a collision between the Sonata and an oncoming Jeep Renegade occupied by 43-year-old Ma Cercado. The Jeep reportedly had a green light at the time of the accident. The collision caused the Hyundai to be pushed northward, resulting in a secondary crash between it and a southbound Honda Pilot.
Both Cercado and the woman from the Sonata suffered reportedly severe injuries as a result of the wreck; they were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
