How Did This Accident Occur?
Was the Volkswagen going too fast? Did the Dodge turn when it wasn’t safe? Did either vehicle have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? The answer to these questions isn’t clear from the initial police report, so a full investigation is needed.
Authorities will work to reconstruct this crash by poring over physical evidence, witness statements, vehicle data and any available video footage. Cell phone records could help, showing what each driver was doing at the time.
An independent expert should examine the vehicles if investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, because most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience.
This investigation should provide the Dodge driver’s family with a clear picture of what happened on State Highway 144.
