Accident Report

Walker County, TX — April 27, 2026, Loyd Nicholson was injured in a car accident at about 4:10 a.m. on Interstate 45 south of New Waverly.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2025 Nissan Sentra crashed into a U-Haul trailer being towed by 2008 Ram 1500 near exit 98. The trailer and the pickup did not have working taillights or brake lights, the report states.

Nissan driver Loyd Nicholson, 72, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.

The three men in the pickup were not hurt, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Walker County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Initial reports say the pickup involved in this crash did not have working taillights, not did its trailer. That seems like it could have caused this accident, especially if the interstate was not well lit. But every crash warrants a full investigation, in my experience.

What if the Nissan had an issue with its brakes? Or what if the Nissa driver was fatigued or distracted?

Investigators should consider these possibilities as they gather physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage to reconstruct this accident. It is also worth looking at the rental company to see if the trailer had been properly maintained.

The injured driver and his family deserve to get a clear picture of what happened on I-45.
