Amarillo, TX — July 13, 2026, Lonnie Xaymongkhoune was killed in a truck accident at about 3 p.m. on Fritch Highway/State Highway 136.
Authorities said a Toyota Tundra was heading south when a chunk of concrete fell off of a semi-truck and crashed through its windshield. The pickup came to rest in a field west of the highway.
Driver Lonnie Xaymongkhoune, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities, while his wife was not seriously injured.
The truck thought to have been involved in this accident has not been found, authorities said.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Potter County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
To get to the bottom of what happened on this stretch of Fritch Highway, investigators must track down the truck involved in this crash.
Until they find that truck, it is going to be difficult to determine why the concrete that killed the Toyota driver came loose. Was it loaded or secured improperly? Did the equipment securing the concrete break or fail? Did the truck clip a bridge or something that damaged the concrete?
These answers will be hard to come by unless the truck is located.
It’s possible that the truck driver didn’t realize what happened to his load, causing this crash, but I hope he or his employer will notify authorities once they realize the load is damaged or incomplete. That will help authorities provide the Toyota driver’s family with a clear picture of what caused this accident.
