Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

If the allegations here are true, have authorities looked into where the alleged drunk driver got their alcohol? This late at night, it’s very likely any given drunk driver was out drinking at a bar, and alcohol providers can face legal consequences, too, for contributing to a serious accident.

Here’s why that’s so important. Our firm has handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers. Those kinds of negligent providers rarely make isolated mistakes. More often, they have a pattern of reckless behavior that only stops once they actually face consequences. Whether that’s criminal investigations, liability, or fines and other penalties, showing them that their harmful behavior isn’t worth the risk gets them to clean up their act.

That fact alone warrants extensive investigations into crashes like this. The fact there may be another party responsible for the victim’s injuries yet to be held accountable only makes those investigations more crucial. Have authorities taken those steps here?
